Dear Friends,
Six months ago, I left Los Angeles for deeply personal reasons—one of which was to spend sacred time with my beloved sister, Kaduland.
For four months, it was daily trips to nursing homes, hospital corridors, and doctors’ offices. Feeding tubes. Life-threatening infections. Hope met heartbreak again and again.
Kaduland passed away on April 23.
Through it all, I held close to the power of language—its ability to witness, to grieve, and to uplift. I wrote. I spoke. I posted a poem called “Thumbs Up, at Arlington,” which unexpectedly went viral—gaining over a million views on TikTok and echoing the call that many of us feel: to protect what’s sacred in this country.
Since arriving in Dallas, I’ve moved into a family home we inherited and begun renovations, both structural and spiritual.
And now, I invite you to join me for an evening of poetry, reflection, and hope.
I’ll be reading from my book I Stand with the Soul of America, including “Thumbs Up, at Arlington” and other selected poems that speak to this moment in our democracy, our grief, and our shared resolve.
This is more than a book signing. It’s a moment to gather. To reflect. To rise.
Come stand with me. Let us lift the soul of America—together.
With gratitude, Sir Addison WittPoet Laureate, Defense of Democracy
