Whenever I meet people who see me in TV commercials, I am always asked how they, too, can get started. I am here for that. In fact, I love working in commercials, and I am grateful that the older I get, the more opportunities come my way. I can help you achieve this goal. First, it is essential to understand that while commercials can become a great source of income, you won't sustain a living in the beginning. In this session, you learn about union and non-union commercials and how they pay. Secondly, I will teach you how to correctly audition for commercials. You will often hear that commercials don't require acting. They just want real people. And though there is a greater demand for more honest and natural behavior in commercials while targeting real people, basic knowledge and skill is still required. Not only do you have to come across naturally in front of the camera, but you also have to feel comfortable with a room full of production staff staring at you as you perform, looking for things that need correcting. You should have a sense of the process. What are a first call, callback, and an avail check? Can you fake it and get by without a lot of prior knowledge? Some people certainly can. But I like to think of it this way. If you were producing a million-dollar production targeting millions of people, would you trust hiring someone who doesn't know what to do when the director calls for action? My commercial training is fun and insightful. You will learn a great deal about commercials and even more about yourself. This is a 3 session class. First, I introduce the concept and types of commercials. Second, you're given "copy" that you will both memorize and cold read. In the next class, we will improvise.
